During my spiritual journey I’ve heard the term “opening the heart” again and again. One friend would tell me I should “open my heart” every time I saw him, and each time, my eyes would glaze over. I had no clue what he was talking about. I’m pretty pragmatic and I don’t do well with esoteric concepts. I had no idea what he was saying — or why I should bother to find out.

The Breakthrough

An open heart is a state of being

An open heart is a state of being

My breakthrough came during a session with my teacher Kerri Finnecy. I asked her about the state of my singlehood. (Okay, I wailed “Where’s my guy?!” but it amounts to the same thing.) She listened and said that my heart was closed and I should work on opening it.

This again?

“How?” I asked.

She gave me a process… and it led me to some amazing, expansive and… yes, heart-opening experiences.

What Does It Mean To Have An Open Heart?

An open heart is a state of being. When your heart is open, you let love flow through you. You feel open, accepting and expansive.

We all experience it from time to time. It may happen after a good cry, after receiving love from someone else or even after a really great movie.

It feels great — and it’s something you want to feel more often. How would it change your life? What amazing new experiences could you attract with this new, high-flying vibration?

Is Your Heart Open Or Closed?

How does your heart feel? Does it feel constricted or open? Would you describe it as a fist or as an open flower?

How To Open Your Heart

The process of opening the heart is simple. It takes just ten minutes in the morning when you wake up and ten minutes at night, before you fall asleep. Within just a few days, you will start to feel a big shift.

Is something covering the heart? (It could be anything: an armor, material, a wooden cage…)

Is something covering the heart? (It could be anything: an armor, material, a wooden cage…)

The opening of the heart process:

  • Lay in bed.
  • Close your eyes.
  • Think about your heart.
  • Try to visualize your heart.
  • What do you see? Can you see its shape?
  • Is something covering the heart? (It could be anything: an armor, material, a wooden cage…)

As you think about your heart and its covering, tell it:

I see you there.

I feel how you feel.

I love you no matter what.

Now call in some light. Don’t worry about the color. Whatever color shows up is the perfect color.

Imagine this light coming from higher realms. This light is pure, positive energy made of unconditional love. Let the light permeate your heart and whatever is covering it.

Keep telling your heart:

I see you there.

I feel how you feel.

I love you no matter what.

To Make This Process Even More Powerful, Ask For Help:

We all have spirit guides and Arc Angels who are always present and eager to help us if we just ask them. Speak to them. Tell them:

I want to open my heart.

Help me open my heart.

Thank you.

You may feel some buzzing energy as you receive the help you’re seeking but even if you don’t, don’t worry. You’re still getting help.

Keep telling your heart:

I see you there.

I feel how you feel.

I love you no matter what.

Soak in that feeling of unconditional love as long as you can, then open your eyes.

Can you feel, just by reading this process, that your heart feels more open?

What Happens When Your Heart Is Open

I can’t predict what will happen to you, but I know that only good things can come from saturating your heart with unconditional love. Four days of doing this this process, something happened to me that made me feel very vulnerable. This vulnerability led to someone rescuing me from a sticky situation, someone who ended up being an incredible teacher who has exposed me to some expansive and heart-opening experiences. This person still teaches me every time I see him how to love unconditionally and how to live with an open heart. No rules. Just love.

Start The Momentum

When you take the first step of opening your heart, you create momentum. What follows is a wonderful flow of events, circumstances, people and experiences that will help you to open your heart even wider. All you have to do is take that first step.
